The ACPBC has prepared a detailed brief outlining the role of Chemistry in sustaining our economy and well-being. The brief also examines the key role Professional Chemists play in ensuring the public is protected through chemical services being offered by competent individuals with appropriate skills and knowledge in the chemical sciences. The brief discusses the role that the ACPBC plays in ensuring that practicing Professional Chemists are appropriately trained chemists and are accountable to ethical standards, undergo regular professional development, and are subject to a disciplinary policy. We discuss the status of Professional Chemists across the country and conclude with a discussion of a proposal for a Chemists Act which would align Professional Chemists in BC with national regulatory standards.
