Emily Fagg is a fourth-year Bachelor of Science student majoring in Chemistry at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops. During her university career, she has completed co-op placements at both large and small-scale chemistry labs. She has conducted two analytical research projects and has presented her findings at conferences in Kamloops, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Saskatoon. Additionally, Emily mentors first year university students at TRU and high school students in rural communities through Rural eMentoring BC. When Emily is not studying, she likes to play golf, play pickleball, and go on hikes.
Over the past academic year, she has been a Research Ambassador at TRU, helping to organize research networking events and thesis competitions. As the president of the TRUSU Blood Club, she coordinated TRU’s first on-campus blood drive, recruiting over 100 donors, including students and faculty, many of whom were donating for the first time. Emily also spoke at a workshop for first-year science students, sharing her experiences in co-op, research, and leadership to offer guidance on academic and extracurricular involvement.
Garrett Grubisa is currently entering his final year at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Chemistry. During his time at TRU, he was inspired towards excellence during his self-directed studies project analyzing burnt soils using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Garrett will be continuing his interests in Chemistry by working towards his Masters in Chemistry with a focus on environmental chemistry and water quality after completing his Bachelors.
During the academic semesters, Garrett is employed at TRU as a teacher’s assistant in the teaching chemistry labs, and assists with outreach programs for elementary and high school students. In off terms he has been employed in the mining and agriculture sectors via the co-op program.
In 2025, Garrett continues his studies at TRU while volunteering with the ACPBC as a student representative.
