Inclusive Student Member Scholarship
The ACPBC Inclusive Student Scholarship is awarded annually to an ACPBC student member enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Chemistry program. Rubric will focus on service to the profession, initiatives or analysis of barriers to more diversity in the Chemical Profession, and how we can improve.
Documentation needed:
- Administrative transcript for up to the January 2024 semester that confirms current registration in an undergraduate or graduate Chemistry based program.
- A letter to the committee introducing yourself (Name, contact information, university, degree currently pursued, and year of study, description of service to profession outside classes and laboratories).
- Examples of service to the profession include participation in National Chemistry week, Open Houses, advocacy around Chemistry inclusion requirements, Chemistry mentoring, involvement in a student Chemistry organization, or work experience at a Science Camp.
- This letter should also have a description of barriers the applicant has faced, what was learned from this experience, and any initiatives the applicant has invested in to help others with similar barriers.
- Examples of service to the profession around inclusion initiatives are hosting Equity Diversity Inclusion discussions in the Chemistry Club; presenting a paper at a conference around an EDI topic; being the graduate safety and equity committee member in your Chemistry department; hosting Chemistry Study Groups for equity seeking groups in appropriate safe spaces to facilitate learning; or fundraising for snack cabinets or safe nap pods for financially challenged or houseless Chemistry students to allow basic needs to be met while they forward their education.
- An additional rubric point may be earned if analysis or suggestions around further initiatives to make the Chemical Profession more inclusive are provided.
- Two reference letters from professional staff affirming your involvement in service to the profession, success despite barriers, or involvement in activism attempting to alleviate the barriers faced for future students.
- Reference letters must include a contact name, email address, and professional registration details of staff. Reference letters from sponsors or staff of university Equity Seeking Group associations are also acceptable (First Nations Elders, Society for Students with a Disability or BIPOC Equity Support staff, etc).
- Optional: A CV detailing your Chemistry related experiences.
